Bruce Oldfield X Worshipful Company of Fan Makers

Khu Khu were honoured to work with The Worshipful Company of Fan Makers on a specially designed fan to raise funds for the Lord Mayor's appeal on the theme of Reflection and Hope. It provided an opportunity to reflect on the eighteen months of the pandemic and to look ahead with a spirit of optimism.

The striking new fan was designed by Bruce Oldfield OBE, one of Britain’s leading fashion designers.

This is the first fan that Mr Oldfield has designed. It features a variety of tulip that he grows in his garden. The tulip resonates with the design brief because it is a flower of spring, it represents the end of a long winter, as well as charity. Happily, the tulip is also in the colours of the City of London.

We used lacquered Spanish beech wood for the sticks and mounted them to be double facing, with British silks on one side and high grade cotton on the reverse. This was an extremely exclusive, limited edition commission of just 100 fans.
